How to respond to Charleston County plan check corrections
What Charleston County calls its correction letter, how to resubmit, and what to include, from the city’s own pages. Each fact links to its source.
How to resubmit
- Permits that need plan review start as a Plan Case, applied for through the CSS portal or in person; the Plan Case review fee is invoiced and paid through CSS before review.
- If the plans don't meet requirements, the corrections are uploaded to the CSS portal and a copy is emailed to the applicant.
- Submit the revision or correction, or the additional documents the Plan Reviewer asked for, so the Plan Case can be approved.
- Once all documents and plans are approved you get an email that the Plan Case is approved, and you can then apply for the permit itself.
- Monitor the CSS portal for updates; questions go to BISPlans@charlestoncounty.org or 843-202-6930.

What a good response to plan check corrections has
General guidance, not Charleston County’s own rules. Check its page before you resubmit.
- Answer every comment, in the reviewer’s order and numbering, so nothing is missed.
- Say plainly what you changed for each comment, or why no change is needed.
- Name the sheet and detail where each change is, so the reviewer can find it fast.
- Mark changes on the drawings (clouds or deltas are common) and keep sheet numbers the same.
- Send the response letter, the revised drawings and any new calculations together.
